Two orange speech bubbles with heart and thumbs up icons on a dark background. Text: "F5 - Refresh," "Why I love Mondays."

I love Mondays!

Stick with me here…

Who doesn't love a do-over? Another chance? The opportunity to try again?

That's what Monday is! And as we either meander or charge headfirst into 2022, also what Jan 1 is/was! Jan 1 is to the year as Monday is to the week. It's a zeroing of the counter. It's a fresh start. F5-Refresh.

The New Years Resolution gets a bad rap these days, I think. I say a goal by any other name is still a goal. If we want to achieve something, we should RESOLVE to do so. If we want to improve ourselves as humans, we should resolve to do so!

The rush of motivation brought on by the new year is a gift, not a reason to be cynical.

We all need something to aim for. Something to improve. Something to keep us on the path. Or, more often in my case, a north star to help get me back on the path. So if it works for you, make your resolutions and get at it.

I genuinely I love the process. To hit refresh on the 1st of Jan, or indeed the first day of the work week. Reflect to learn, reset, then move forward. The moving forward bit is possibly even more crucial to me, than the goals themselves.

For years I've subscribed to a rigid goal setting process. Personal, Family, Business, Health. Goals set for each. Some achieved, some not. I still do it, and it's one of my favourite things to do. But question things, as I do, I started to recognise that I enjoyed the goal setting process far more than the execution or achievement of those goals!

How often have I set goals, popped them aside with a look of satisfaction on my face, thinking, "I'll get cracking on those soon…" and one, two, three months pass and I haven't moved the needle at all?!?

If only I'd started when my motivation was high… when I was so happy with my reflection and goal resetting process. If only…

So, in 2022 I resolve to be a Starter. A quick-starter, that is. To increase my chances of being a finisher.

When due planning and decision making is done, take the first step. Straight away. One step closer to completion.

F5-Refresh. Now, GO!
