"We need fewer meetings because they take too much time!" is nothing short of lazy leadership.

We must strive for BETTER meetings that move us towards our goals and make them an asset rather than a time-consuming liability.

The Recipe

The key to efficient and effective meetings lies in a few simple principles:

  • Starting and finishing on time

  • Having a clear agenda

  • Providing transparency on progress towards goals

  • Addressing the most critical issues.

When these elements align, meetings become a force, driving the team towards success. You won't find yourself wishing for fewer meetings; instead, you'll crave the clarity, focus, and momentum they provide.

Organisation Cardio

As much as we hate it, we need regular cardio workouts to stay fit and keep our heart rate regular and not spike. A business requires a consistent pulse to maintain its health and functionality. Too slow and too fast both bring issues. Laziness in leadership is akin to neglecting your cardio – it leads to inefficiency and an inability to keep up with the rapid changes or growth in your business.

Imagine your business going through a period of rapid change or experiencing high levels of growth – it's comparable to you running a sprint. Your meeting cadence becomes the pulse of your organisation. If you neglect it, you risk falling behind or collapsing under the strain.

So, we can now compare your fitness as a human with building organisational clarity in a business. Just as a fit individual can run faster with a lower pulse, a well-organised business can grow faster and maintain a steady pace by focusing on the key elements: clear vision, the right team, clear accountabilities, and a well-defined scorecard or metrics.

Organisational Cardio comes into play. It's about putting in the work to build the muscles necessary for strength in six key areas: Vision, People, Data, Issues, Process, and Traction. Each area is like a vital component of your workout routine, contributing to your organisation's overall health and vitality.

To get stronger in these areas, you must do the reps. Repetitions of dedicated effort and attention. Just as lifting weights builds physical strength, focusing on these key areas builds the organisational strength needed for success.

So, lazy leaders, it's time to get off the couch and embrace Organisational Cardio. Stop avoiding meetings and start making them work for you. Build clarity, address issues, and propel your business towards its goals. Remember, the success of your organisation depends on your commitment to doing the reps and investing in the health of these crucial areas. Organisational Cardio isn't just a concept; it's a call to action for leaders who refuse to be lazy and are determined to lead their teams to new heights.
